Solarcrown’s Dual Impact: Energy-Efficient Lighting and Solar PV Upgrade at the Innovation Centre

Solarcrown’s Dual Impact: Energy-Efficient Lighting and Solar PV Upgrade at the Innovation Centre

Solarcrown Commercial (SCC) recently undertook a multifaceted project at the Innovation Centre, managed by Sci-Tech Daresbury. The Innovation Centre is a versatile hub for research, tech development, and collaboration. It hosts cutting-edge labs for research, supports start-ups, and fosters partnerships between academia and industry.

The Innovation Centre underwent a significant enhancement in its lighting infrastructure, marking a substantial improvement in its overall operational efficiency. Additionally, a state-of-the-art solar photovoltaic (PV) system was seamlessly integrated into the facility by SolarCrown Commercial

This combined initiative modernised the Centre’s illumination and introduced an efficient renewable energy solution.

Solarcrown’s Solar PV System: Harnessing Sustainable Power

SCC designed and installed a state-of-the-art solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the Innovation Centre, highlighting the facility’s commitment to sustainable practices.

Key Features of the Solar PV System:

The Solar PV System at the Innovation Centre boasts several key features that contribute to its efficiency and financial viability:

  1. System Size (64.38 kWp): The system is designed with a capacity of 64.38 kilowatts peak (kWp), indicating its ability to generate substantial power under optimal conditions.
  2. Generation (58,673 kWh / Year): The system is expected to produce an annual output of 58,673 kilowatt-hours (kWh), reflecting its capability to generate a consistent and significant amount of electricity yearly.

  3. Solar Panels (148 x Longi 435W): Comprising 148 Longi solar panels, each with a capacity of 435 watts, the system is equipped with high-quality components known for their efficiency and durability.

  4. Inverter (Solis 50kW): Including a Solis 50-kilowatt inverter is a crucial component in the solar energy conversion process, ensuring efficient and reliable transformation of the generated DC electricity into AC power for use within the facility

  5. Payback (2.2 Years): With a payback period of 2.2 years, the system demonstrates a relatively short timeframe for recovering the initial investment through energy cost savings, attesting to its economic feasibility.

  6. 1st-Year Electricity Savings (£25,018.40): In the first year of operation, the solar PV system is projected to result in substantial electricity savings amounting to £25,018.40, showcasing its immediate impact on reducing operational costs.

  7. 25-Year Lifetime Electricity Savings (£1,293,523.59): Over its estimated 25-year lifetime, the solar PV system is anticipated to contribute to significant long-term savings, amounting to an impressive £1,293,523.59. This figure underscores the enduring financial benefits of the system and reinforces its role as a sustainable and cost-effective energy solution for the Innovation Centre.

This solar PV system is a testament to SCC’s expertise in sustainable power solutions. Designed to contribute significantly to the Innovation Centre’s power needs, the system’s projected payback period of 2.2 years underscores its financial viability. However, the most impressive aspect lies in the 25-year Lifetime Electricity Savings, a staggering £1,293,523.59 – a testament to the enduring economic benefits of SCC’s solar PV solution.

Solarcrown Commercial’s Lighting Upgrade

In response to the need for enhanced energy efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint, SCC was contracted to upgrade the lighting infrastructure at the Innovation Centre. The project aimed to replace traditional lighting systems with state-of-the-art LED technology, aligning with the Centre’s commitment to sustainability.

Facing challenges related to high energy consumption and a desire to reduce operational costs, the Innovation Centre sought SCC’s expertise in energy-efficient solutions. SCC proposed a comprehensive LED lighting upgrade, including installing energy-efficient LED fixtures, smart lighting controls, and motion sensors to optimise lighting based on occupancy.

Key Benefits of the Lighting Upgrade:

  1. Energy and Cost Savings: The LED lighting upgrade significantly reduced energy consumption, leading to lower utility bills for the Innovation Centre. Additionally, the energy-efficient design ensures a longer lifespan for the LED fixtures, reducing maintenance costs over time.

  2. Environmental Impact: The upgrade aligned with the Innovation Centre’s sustainability goals, contributing to a decreased carbon footprint and promoting environmentally responsible practices. LED lighting is mercury-free and produces less light pollution.

  3. Enhanced Lighting Quality: The new LED lighting provides better colour rendering and uniform illumination, creating a more comfortable and productive environment for occupants. Smart controls allow for customisable lighting scenarios, adapting to various activities and preferences.

  4. Occupancy Sensing and Automation: Motion sensors intelligently control lighting based on occupancy, reducing energy wastage in unoccupied areas. Automation features enable scheduled adjustments and optimising lighting levels throughout the day.

  5. Improved Aesthetics: The upgraded LED fixtures enhance the overall aesthetics of the Innovation Centre, contributing to a modern and visually appealing atmosphere.

Kenny Currie, Managing Director of Solarcrown Commercial, commented:

“I’m really pleased with our successful project at the Innovation Centre. The 64.38 kWp Solar PV System, with its 2.2-year payback, demonstrates our commitment to sustainable power, delivering savings of £1,293,523.59 over 25 years. Furthermore, the Lighting Upgrade contributes to cost savings and enhances lighting quality at the Innovation Centre.”

The effective partnership between SCC and the Innovation Centre highlights how technology can enhance operational efficiency and environmental responsibility. SolarCrown Commercial has installed smart LED lighting at the Innovation Centre and ensured sustainable power for the future by integrating an energy-efficient lighting upgrade with a state-of-the-art solar PV system.
