Solarcrown Support Standish Under 5s Nursery with Free Lighting Install

A community partnership project has delivered a safer, more energy-efficient environment for children at Standish Under 5s Nursery, entirely free of charge.
As part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, SCC joined forces with its partner Trojan Lighting to provide a full LED lighting upgrade at the nursery, enhancing comfort and safety while reducing running costs and environmental impact.
The project is one of several initiatives SCC supports each year to help organisations that align with its values around community, sustainability, and long-term impact.
SCC’s CSR approach includes providing practical support for local organisations, not just funding and mentoring, but in-kind improvements that make a real difference.
In this case, Standish Under 5s Nursery benefited from a complete LED lighting system, designed specifically for early years settings where visual comfort, safety, and adaptability are essential. SCC managed the installation all at no cost to the nursery.
Nurseries have unique requirements when it comes to lighting. Fixtures need to minimise glare and flicker, ensure even light distribution for safety, and support a variety of activities, from quiet reading to active play.
The project included
- fittings offering glare-free illumination and smart zoned control
- emergency lighting and signage with long-life batteries for safety and compliance
- smart controls to optimise light levels based on time of day and occupancy
The upgrade means lower electricity bills, reduced maintenance, and a smaller carbon footprint, helping the nursery operate more sustainably, in line with the wider goals of early years providers and local authorities.
“The difference has been incredible – the rooms feel brighter, calmer and much more welcoming,” said Katie Wallington, Manager at Standish Under 5s Nursery.
This initiative reflects SCC’s belief that CSR should be rooted in meaningful action combining technical expertise with a desire to support community organisations.
