Frequently Asked Questions
Can I lease commercial solar panels?
Yes. Many businesses choose to lease solar panels rather than purchase them outright. Leasing allows you to spread the cost over an agreed period, making renewable energy more affordable and preserving capital for other investments. Depending on the finance option you choose, monthly repayments can often be offset by the savings your solar system generates.
Can I lease LED lighting?
Yes. LED lighting can also be financed through lease agreements, allowing businesses to upgrade without a large upfront investment. This is particularly popular for larger projects where the energy and maintenance savings begin immediately, helping to offset the cost of the finance.
Can energy savings cover lease repayments?
In many cases, yes. Well-designed solar and LED lighting projects are often structured so that the reduction in electricity costs significantly contributes towards the monthly finance repayments. While every project is different, many organisations experience a positive cashflow from day one or shortly after installation.
Are there grants for businesses?
Potentially. Grant funding and government-backed schemes are available from time to time, although availability depends on your location, sector and the type of project. We keep up to date with current funding opportunities and can advise whether your business may be eligible before recommending the most suitable finance option.
Can schools get funding?
Yes. Schools, colleges and universities may have access to dedicated funding schemes, public sector finance, Salix-backed programmes (where available), or lease arrangements designed specifically for educational organisations. We can help identify the most appropriate route based on your school’s circumstances and budget.
What is a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)?
A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) allows your business to benefit from solar energy without purchasing the system. A third party installs, owns and maintains the solar panels on your property, while you simply buy the electricity they generate at an agreed rate, which is typically lower than your standard grid electricity price. PPAs can provide immediate savings with no capital investment.
Can maintenance be included?
Yes. Maintenance packages can often be incorporated into your finance agreement, depending on the funding option selected. Including maintenance provides predictable monthly costs and helps ensure your solar or LED lighting system continues to operate efficiently throughout the agreement.
Do I own the equipment?
t depends on the type of finance you choose.
With a finance lease or hire purchase agreement, ownership usually transfers to you either immediately or at the end of the agreement, depending on the product. With an operating lease, the finance provider retains ownership for the duration of the lease. Under a Power Purchase Agreement, the third-party provider owns, operates and maintains the equipment throughout the contract while you purchase the electricity it produces.
We’ll explain the ownership structure of each option and help you choose the solution that best suits your organisation’s financial and operational goals.
